Some people want top of the line, fancy mobile devices, and are willing to pay for them. But not everyone is like that, some of us just want a phone that takes calls, sends messages and that we can casually surf the net on. It may seem that a lot of phones are top of the line devices, laden with features that many of us might not use or even be interested in, but there are some reasonably priced mid-level phones out there. Two such phones that are offered by many mobile providers are the Motorola Motosmart and the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2. If you don’t want to drop a lot of cash on a fancy phone that has unnecessary features, you’d do well to consider these two models. They’re both Android phones, running Android’s older 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which is perfectly reliable, though it might not be the fastest operating system out there. So how do these phones compare, and which one is the better buy? Read on to find out…
Why the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 is a Good Deal…
The Galaxy has a few advantages over the Motorola. Firstly, it has around ten per cent more PPI (pixels per inch) in its screen, making for a slightly crisper and sharper display. It is a little lighter and smaller than the Motorola too, by around ten per cent, making it just a tad more portable. Another advantage is the talk time; you get about ten per cent more talk time per battery charge cycle on the Galaxy as compared to the Motosmart. That means you need to charge your battery a little less often, which is always nice. Finally, there’s the biggest difference. The Galaxy comes with an awful lot more internal storage than the Motorola, sporting 4 GB of memory as opposed to a mere 168 MB on the Motosmart. That’s a massive twenty five times more music, photos, games and data that can be stored on your device.
What the Motorola Motosmart Can Do for You…
The Motosmart has its own advantages, of course. Firstly, it has more standby time per battery charge cycle, so, if you’re the kind of person that doesn’t really use their phone very often, this might be a consideration for you. It’s also around ten per cent thinner than the Galaxy. The biggest advantage of the Motorola though is its screen, which is ten per cent bigger than that of the Samsung (3.5 inches, compared to 3.3 inches). When it comes to browsing the internet or reading emails, a bigger screen is always better.
What’s the Best Deal?
Although we like the bigger screen on the Motorola, our recommendation goes to the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2. Mostly because of its storage space, Motorola’s expectation that 168 MB is enough memory for a smart phone is a little ridiculous. And expanding that memory will only lead to spending more money on external memory, which makes the Motosmart not such a great bargain. There are reasonably priced mid-level phones out there and the Galaxy Mini 2 might be the best deal.
